TE3610PF is based on two image processing technologies developed by Apical Limited: iridix®, which implements pixel-by-pixel dynamic range compression, and sinter®, which is an advanced noise reduction core. The dynamic range compression function can produce images with a most natural appearance similar to that seen by the human eye while the noise reduction function reduces sensor noise and improves the efficiency of compression techniques such as JPEG and MPEG.

Pixel-by-pixel dynamic range compression (*Apical Limited: iridix®)
<Standard form of dynamic range adjustment>
The standard form of dynamic range adjustment uses gamma correction to apply non-linear gain to an image. Such global processing progressively reduces contrast as dynamic range of the scene increases, leading to substantial loss of information and frequently unacceptable images.
<iridix dynamic range compression>
When using iridix dynamic range compression, however, the optimum tone curve is determined individually for each pixel which allows the image to be reproduced in a way similar to that seen by the human observer.

Dynamic
Range Compression &
Noise Reduction function demonstration
Dynamic Range Compression / Noise Reduction function ON/OFF image
It is a demonstration that uses TE3610PF evaluation board.The photographic subject is arranged such that half of the screen is dark and half of the screen is bright. By Dynamic Range Compression function of TE3610PF, the dark parts are made brighter without whitening the bright parts. And by Noise Reduction function the noise of dark parts is reduced.

Demonstration
of control by iris and by TE3610PF registers
It is a demonstration that uses TE3610PF evaluation board.The photographic subject is arranged such that half of the screen is dark and half of the screen is bright. It is an image for comparison of brightness control by iris and Dynamic Range Compression control of TE3610PF.
By iris of lens, the dark parts can be made brighter but the bright parts will become white and the image will become unnatural. Dynamic Range Compression control by TE3610PF strength register implements the natural image by making the dark parts brighter without whitening the bright parts.

* Apical's "iridix "Eimage processing technology
"iridix" is a type of dynamic range compression that uses a "proprietary algorithm which mimics the action of the human retina". The method uses research into the human visual system (HVS) to model how the retina automatically adjusts the dynamic range of an image and works by adjusting the brightness of each pixel in realtime with reference to the local area within the frame. The technology can reproduce images in the most natural way regardless of the environment in which the image was captured.

The TE3610PF connects to the final stage of the AFE (analog front end) so as to apply correction to the RAW data which has the highest information content and achieve the maximum possible dynamic range compression benefits.
